While Ambookgeek's relaxing at a 5-star hotel on Maui, I'm chillin out in L.A. wondering how can I get one of those plush gigs :) hee hee. But seriously, I was hanging out with my friend, Jen B., and we were talking about how we probably should have gotten one of those "cash gigs" as she called them. Yes, I needed another skill, like I don't know, being an awesome hairstylist or wax technician or something like that. But it takes years to be amazing and excel at those jobs so I will stick to being a librarian. Though, i still would like to be a massage therapist at some point. Therapeutic people not exotic.
Anyway, last night, I started reading Daniel Pink's "A Whole New Mind" and I could not sleep afterwards. I know, it's not like it's a horror story or anything, it's about how the world is changing to right-brained thinking versus left-brained thinking. Yeah! That would really keep a girl up at night. Oy! Anyway, sufficed to say, I'm kind of a little off today. But I'm still going for a run even though I feel like I should put on a sweater. Yeah! from 95 degrees to a cool 50. Not gonna complain the coolness is welcomed.
have a good friday folks! Here's a little Booker T. & The MGs for you:
The last moments before I leave my apartment are heavy with anticipation. My stomach flutters, out of hunger, yes, but also with anxiety; looking forward to seeing him again after (only) a week. Looking forward to being back in Paris. Pushing ahead to my thirtieth birthday. Unknown adventures which await us in Spain. All of this wrapped up in one wriggling, twitching, nervous package.
There will be a delay of sorts, however. I have a 5-hour layover in Washington DC, which would be a painful wait save the fact that there is a Smithsonian museum next door to the airport. Shuttle rides are fifty cents, each way, so that is where I'll end up spending a chunk of my time. I'm also meeting up with a cousin who lives in the area, so that will also help pass the time.
I brought several books and scripts to read on the plane, but having been awake all night long (yes, really) what I'll really need to do is sleep. Most of all because I arrive at 7am and will then need to remain awake for the entire day.
Now I'm just rambling.

Next weekend is Comic Con in San Diego and I've got tickets for all four days and the preview night on Wednesday where, assuming we get into town on time, we'll get to see the pilot for the new JJ Abrahams show "Fringe" months before everyone else.
We booked a hotel room in May and it was already too late, just about everything was booked solid; we were looking at a hotel online, deciding whether or not to stay there and when we refreshed the page five minutes later it was booked.
In the end we found a hotel about 30 miles from downtown, not a bad drive considering our former commutes to work (hers 60+ miles one way, mine 30) but far enough to be inconvenient too.
A few weeks later Office Wife said that we could stay with her for a couple days before their friend from out of town came to stay with them.
This is where the fun starts...
I called the hotel to change our reservation.
The automated attendant picked up and said "press 1 for blah blah blah,
press 2 for reservations, press..." I pressed 2, I needed to change my
reservation.
After being on hold where the "celebrity" hotel spokesperson actually read part of "A Tale of Two Cities" in lieu of hold music a man named Thomas picked up.
I explained the situation to him and he said "Oh yeah, you'll need to press 0 for that."
"But this is the number for reservations, I pressed 2. I'm trying to change my reservation."
"Oh yeah, it makes sense that you did that but just call back and press 0."
Begrudgingly I did so.
I pressed 0, the phone rang once and then someone picked up.
It was Thomas again! I couldn't believe it.
"Um, I just talked to you."
"Oh yeah, I needed to change desks so I had you call back."
Had he been able to see my face
he might not have been so nonchalant with his lazy explanation for why
I had to call back.
