My birthday present from
Melissa was an
Amoeba run. We made a commitment in January (actually I think it started when I was on holiday vacation between Christmas and New Year's) to do an Amoeba run once a month. It's a return to the record store after I'd spent much of the last two years buying almost all my music via iTunes or Amazon.com. So, the fair lady bought me the following:
Writer's Block by Peter Bjorn and John,
The Beautiful Mix Tape 2: The Struggle Continues by Talib Kweli,
Voices and Choices by Shawn Lee's Ping Pong Orchestra,
Introducing...Joss Stone by Joss Stone,
Play With the Changes by 4Hero, and
Those Things by Miguel Migs.
Dave Hoffman at Popmatters
argues that it is the first great electronica release of 2007. I'm on board with that sentiment.

I really like Miguel Migs new joint. But I have a feeling some of that will wear off. 4Hero, on the other hand, is pure perfection to me. I foresee it sitting firmly in my top 10 of 2007. Also, in the electronic camp, I've found a new appreciation for Tracey Thorn's Out Of The Woods.
I haven't fully consumed Joss Stone. But so far, I like it. Make sure you scoop up Macy Gray's Big this week; it's bananas!
i knew you'd love my birthday idea - i was itching to tell you all week. YAY! cant wait for the next run. totally buying that other brazil gem we saw.
miguel is coming to town in may i think. @ the avalon (gross) but i kinda wanna go and dance to this. watcha say?
[...] Even three months in, it's a safe bet that From Here We Go Sublime will wind up 2007's most luxuriant record.
