Speakeasy: Sexy Back

You know I have to comment on this. Can't a person just have a preference and not have it reflect on race? Like some men prefer blondes? Hmm, I don't really know.

There's a guy at work who's Viet, which is so cool for me because I don't really have Viet or even Asian friends. He told me that his Viet lady friends think Viet guys are either arrogant or will beat them. I've only dated one Viet and he was arrogant, but in general a nice guy. My friend at work, William is a great guy, definitely not a loser, has a cute Viet girlfriend.

I was once told by Octavio that the reason why Asian-American women date white guys is because they're ashamed to be Asian. They also don't date other races because they're ashamed of what their families might think ("she's dating a Mexican, black guy, etc?!"). He may have said this because he was trying to guilt me into going out with him, but there must be some truth to it on some level. It could also be that we, I, have a preference. And my preference is...not Octavio.

If these Asian-American women want Asian hotties take a look at Rain, or Se7en. Rain has quite the following in the States now. I say, if you think he's cute go out with him. Just one date. You can get a new friend out of it, or a lover, or even just a free meal.

Foolishness, stereotype and infatuation knows no cultural limit. Everyone seems to want something that ain't them. I think I have a thing for plants. They're green, they convert carbon dioxide. They're exotic, misunderstoodm romantic. Yeah....plant love. No plant ever called me a ni_____.

this is so great to read - especially after our conversation tonight.

mr. haggis ain't got a clue. hehe.
Ann, there's an article in a book I read called Half and Half (I'll add it to my book collection here) that has an essay that deals a lot with some of the unique relationship/romantic issues that children of immigrants tend to have. It is specific to Los Angeles. I don't have any desire to begrudge anyone their choices and attractions, I'm just a curious sort who wants to know why we make those choices.
Cheryl, I know a ficus with his own house and health care. Let me know if you want his digits.

Holla at ya fern!
It's not easy being green.

You know, it's hard out there for a plant.
