There are plenty of reasons for Obama's magic voice: where he grew up, how his parents talked, how he breathes. But perhaps most important is one Obama doesn't want to talk about: cigarettes. Obama is an occasional smoker.

Apparently, smoker's voices are an advantage for women who work in radio. Just about all of the professional female DJs I knew at the time were smokers, and almost to a woman they all said that the smoky voice is what helped them get -- and hold onto -- a gig.
