Work Brain

[this is good]
Somtimes drowning work brain in alcohol helps. Sounds like you need a vacation.
I feel your pain. I've got the same problem, my creative focus has gone AWOL and all I can think about is resolving work-related issues. I've got some vacation time scheduled in a secluded cabin at the end of the month, and I'm hoping the downtime will help me reboot. May I suggest the same for you: a do-nothing vacation.
I've noticed that the higher up you are on the career ladder, the harder it is to disconnect from work. My supervisors seem to live at/live for work. What's difficult about our industry - internet - is that it invades our home. We can't get away from work unless you don't have a computer at home; not likely for people like us.

It's really about discipline. Work at work and leave it there when you go home. I've realized a million things can go wrong with the internet. There are just too many variables and we can't control everything - what system people run, what browser they use, did they upgrade their version of Flash, did they turn off javascripts, what's the screen resolution - it's all a crapshoot!

So, my tip of the day to turn off Work Brain is to have some scheduled weekday activity that's not work-related, but just as valuable to your life, like an exercise class. Something once a week perhaps. I took some cooking classes.
