Burial's dominance of my last.fm charts the last few weeks has brought lots of artists with jazz somewhere in their name to my recommendations. From the jazztroniks to the kyoto jazz massives, it's the return of the downtempo and the introduction of the dubstep, y'all. This particular track is a little more ambient and muzak-like to be a regular in my music rotation but I like it enough. Compost Records has the scoop on them.

Burial is still king but unlike most weeks when my "The Station" and "Drive Time" playlists usually determine my listens, I was very deliberate this week. Aaliyah was my own personal focus this week. Kanye West came through because of his relationship with Murakami and my visit to the exhibit. Bjork was the fly home soundtrack from Vegas.

Also, I'm finding that I didn't give The Polyphonic Spree's The Fragile Army and Justice's Cross enough love in 2007 so I'm making up for it in 2008. I've always been a Spree fan but that Justice album sounds better and better with each listen. It's fun but it's also deep and complex and has one of the most unique (yet still listenable) electronic/dance music sounds in recent years. That duo is a step forward.

My top track of the week was "Untitled" by Burial but the truth is, there are 4 untitled tracks across his two albums so I'll leave you with the #2 joint of the week (since the cut I really want to post, Shawty Lo's They Know, won't upload), "Good Life" by Mr. West. Good Morning.

Berlin got a new show in 2006, Belle et Fou realised by four star chef and event caterer HANS-PETER WODARZ and producer/director ARTHUR CASTRO. Besides dance, theatre and refined culinary delights, this new project from the makers of Pomp, Duck & Circumstance has one very special highlight to offer: the soundtrack is by JAZZANOVA.

This track is of particular interest because it was originally sung by Vikter Duplaix. Clara Hill gives it a completely different vibe. I dig it. The whole soundtrack, however, is stellar. Jazzanova can do very little wrong.

I'm staring at the screen, distracted by the corny profile that 60 Minutes is doing on Facebook (although I'm impressed that after the first half of puff, Leslie Stahl is digging into Beacon a bit), and thinking about what I want to share about my week. That's what these song for sunday posts have become. For some odd reason, I want to talk about how I've been postponing cleaning my bathroom all week and using remember the milk to do so. That's not a good story.

I feel like I should say something about the week I had with my sister - it began with us leaving Vegas, the middle was having Ethiopian at Nyala, the end was dropping her off at the airport for her to return to school today - but I'm not trying to get all sappy up in this piece. Especially when I know she's reading. The highlight, however, was switching iPods with her at McCarran Airport and getting her into Björk. She left town with a CD packed with my favorite tracks from across her entire catalog. Bomb.

I could talk about the Murakami Exhibit (that needs it's own post) or the trip we took to Pink's yesterday (but I might turn that into something for laist) or my initial thoughts on the first two episodes of the final season of The Wire or on all the signs that I'm starting to act like a grown-up that showed themselves this week. I could talk about all those things but I don't feel like it.

It's Sunday, Andy Rooney is being crabby, my feet are up and I'm still not going to clean that damn bathroom.

Kate Havnevik performed at The Hotel Cafe tonight but I'm far too congested to be out amongst the LA music snobberati. The Hotel Cafe is where you go when Nic Harcourt of KCRW likes you and Havnevik totally fits that mold. This track was a KCRW "Today's Tune" earlier this month and everytime  it plays, I mistake her voice, momentarily, for Imogen Heap's.

On this track, "Unlike Me," she tries to out-Frou Frou the lead Frau. It is reminiscent of "Hide & Seek" in tempo and haunting rhythm but it is lighter. It has some of the whimsy of some of the more popular tracks off of Frou Frou's details.

This is not a bad thing. I might have to pick up the full length Melankton. It'll hold me over until Bjork's new record comes out later this year.
