I wrote a short story (one that I think ended up in some form or fashion on negroplease in the early days - maybe I'll drag that out) in high school based entirely on this concept called "Asymptotes". It was obviously based on the nerdy math concept as opposed to the ancient myth. It would've been a much better story if I had known the myth.
